Shaman Talents – Why Shamans Have Three Roles

The “jack of all trades”, as many are fond to call this class, the Shaman is the best example of the hybrid class in the World of Warcraft. It is an all around character that can wield numerous talents and can develop various skills, but not necessarily specializing any of them. Although there are other hybrids in this game, nothing compares to the range of shaman talents.

The talents wielded by the Shamans are reflected by the three builds available to them – the ranged talents of the Elemental build, the melee skills of the Enhancement build, and the healing powers of the Restoration build. With these assortment of talents, the Shaman can act three roles – the priest, the mage and the rogue. Because of these, it is not uncommon for Shaman players to have difficulty leveling up.

For each build, there are several individual talents. For Shamans, these are:

{Elemental} – The Elemental talents, which basically deal ranged damage against opponents by way of the elements, are often the route chosen by Shamans who want to focus in PvP gameplay. Needless to say, this route is for players who prefer casting spells from a distance. As such, it is considered as a not-so-good options for melee combats. The elemental talents focus on abilities that allow castin of spells while enhancing ranged DPS. This is good except that it comes with a cost – more delayed downtime. This is caused by over dependence on mana, which needs to be replenished between fights, causing delay between each attack.

At tier 1 of this tree, Shamans are given the option to select between Convection, a good choice for PvE players, and Concussion, the route recommended for PvP players. Both of these will open up to higher elemental Shaman talents.

{Enhancement} – Enhancement talents are for those players who want to make characters that have excellent melee abilities. As such, this route gives players better options when it comes to surviving melee combats and dealing better close range damage. This tree is great for players who prefer PvP-ing and solo questing.

Like many other builds, the Enhancement tree gives players two choices – the Ancestral Knowledge and the Shield Specialization. Most players often take the route of the Ancestral Knowledge as this allows significant mana boost. Shield Specialization, meanwhile, may prove useful during the first 40 levels of the game, but its usefulness wanes once the player reaches higher levels, unless of course you opt to become a Healer.

{Restoration} – As was previously mentioned, Shamans rely mostly on their mana. The downside to this is that most Shamans take a while to heal. It is a popular choice, therefore, for lower level players to follow the route of the Restoration tree as this gives the shaman talents that are aptly suited for Healers.
